Paving in America

Leading people to their destinations

Asphalt has literally changed the landscape of our country, especially since the late 19th century. Wherever there is a concentration of people, there is asphalt pavement. More than 2 million miles of roads and highways in the United States are paved with asphalt.

About 4,000 asphalt plants around the nation produce 500 – 550 million tons of asphalt every year. Laying it down on roads is a large industry, employing more than 300,000 people. Today, asphalt pavement is a safe, economical and sustainable resource. Once laid, most pavement will last 20 years with minimal maintenance.
